Wessex 4x4 Response Constitution

We have adopted the Charity Commissioners Model Constitution

The main points are summarised below, if there is any conflict with the model constitution then that shall have precedence.


1. The aim of the organisation shall be "To preserve and protect human life by supplementing and supporting emergency services in Somerset and the adjacent counties in particular but not exclusively by providing equipment and vehicles".

2. The Organisation shall be known as Wessex 4x4 Response, in correspondence the term W4x4R may also be used.

note as amended at the Committee meeting of held 06/11/05 this is amended to read The Organisation shall be known as Wessex 4x4 Response Association, all references to Somerset 4x4 Response (prior to that date) shall be considered a reference to Wessex 4x4 Response Association.

3. The support provided will primarily be logistical in case of adverse weather or road conditions.

4. Assistance may be given to other organisations for the purpose of training at the discretion of the Committee.

5. Membership is open to any person over the age of 18.

6. The Committee shall consist of not less than 5 members of Wessex 4x4 Response Association

7. Officers of the Group shall consist of Chairman, Treasurer and Secretary.

8. The Trustees of the Group shall be the Committee.

9. There shall be an annual membership fee of 10 pounds per annum or such sum as may be decided at the Annual General Meeting of the Group.This sum shall be payable upon acceptance

10. All funds of Wessex 4x4 Response Association shall be held by the National Westminster Bank Plc. Langport branch ; or such other bank or building society as the Committee may be decide The account shall be in the name of Wessex 4x4 Response Association

11. A minimum of 2 Committee members shall sign all cheques.

12. In the event of the organisation being dissolved all remaining funds shall be dispersed to the Charity or organisation which the Committee believes most resembles the group in aims & area of operation.

13. Any changes to this Constitution shall be decided by a simple majority vote of the members present at the Annual General Meeting or Extraordinary General meeting.

14. The Annual General Meeting shall be held on first Saturday of February each year. 14 days notice shall be given by e-mail, telephone, or publication upon the website. The Venue Date & Time shall be clearly stated in the notice.

15. The Committee shall meet not less than once every 3 months.

16. An Extraordinary General Meeting for the purpose of dissolving the group or amending the constitution may be called by the Committee or one quarter of the membership giving notice to the Secretary. The meeting shall be held not less than 14 days and not later than 21 days from such notice. The Venue Date & Time of such meeting shall be clearly stated in the notice.

17. The Group shall be governed at all times by the Laws of England & Wales.

AMENDED at the March 2007 to comply with recent legislation It is a requisite for all OPERATIONAL members to have held a licence to drive their vehicle for at least 3 years and have no more than six penalty points
